We ventured into purani Dilli ki galliyan in search of the best kulfi. In the ever-bustling Old Delhi, a quick chat with people narrows our hunt to Kuremal Mohanlal and Duli Chand Kulfiwale.
At Kuremal’s, we were promptly handed a nicely-cut plate of stuffed-mango kulfi when we asked for their ‘specialty’. The kulfi, sized into generous, refreshing bites, is served with a tinge of brain freeze.
Next, we head to Duli Chand Kulfiwale (Fun fact: the two shops sit bang opposite each other). Duli Chand’s ‘specialty’ is their classic Kesar Pista Kulfi. Served in a tiny matka handi, the kulfi stays firm and cold till we finish it. This wasn’t the case with the mango-kulfi, where the stuffing melted out quite fast despite the mango being super cold.
Verdict
For Rs 200, the stuffed-mango kulfi is refreshing and something new. However, the mazza of eating a kulfi is safeguarded by Duli Chand’s Kesar Pista Kulfi, priced nominally at Rs 50.
