Co-founder and former employee of MakeMyTrip Keyur Joshi was trolled on social media for his remarks regarding the beef ban on Wednesday.

He has reportedly deleted his Twitter account after the fallout.

In a series of tweets, now deleted, Joshi criticised the government’s decision of ‘taking away’ a citizen’s right to food. Expressing his disappointment, he then said that he would consume beef just to prove his rights and freedoms.

While the ban on beef has been a sensitive issue since a while, feelings regarding the same have intensified since the Narendra Modi-led government came to power. Joshi’s recent comments have added to the trail of controversial remarks and did not go down well with some people on Twitter.

Joshi was accused of being “anti-Hindu” and “anti-national”.

Soon tweets started pouring in, and many chose to uninstall the MakeMyTrip app from their phones to retaliate. Consequently, #BoycottMakeMyTrip started trending on Twitter.

MMT Clarifies

Seeing that public anger had been channelled towards the company, MakeMyTrip took to twitter to officially clarify that they did not associate with the personal opinions of a former employee.

Yet the force of social media resulted in a fall in the app’s ratings, and a clarification could only do so much.

Following the backlash, Joshi apologised for his remarks and withdrew them. He then deleted his Twitter account.
