The sequel to Tiger Shroff’s first Rambo-esque adventure of the same name, Baaghi 2 has grossed over Rs 73.4 crore in the very first weekend since its release.
However, the first two minutes of the film has garnered attention for all the wrong reasons.
The first scene from this ‘blockbuster’ has an uncanny resemblance to a much controversial real-life incident from the Kashmir Valley, when a Kashmiri Shawl weaver was tied to the front of a military jeep by Major Nitin Gogoi, and used as a human shield against a crowd of stone-pelters.
Incidentally, it has been almost a year since it had happened, and Farooq Ahmad Dar (the said shawl weaver) still awaits justice at the court of law, as reported by The Wire.
Many media outlets have reported how social media is all praises for Tiger Shroff as Ranveer Pratap Singh, for his depiction of Gogoi’s ‘heroic’ act. Here’s a sample of the chatter on the re-enactment of the human-shield incident.
But that isn’t the only opinion on the Internet. Several netizens, specially many Kashmiri youth have called the scene a new low for Bollywood.
Several film critics also pointed out the sense of hyper-nationalism portrayed in the film, especially in glorifying what is debated as a human rights violation.
