Here’s Why This Woman Amputee Has Made India So Proud

In 2013, she became the world’s first woman amputee to climb Mount Everest.

And yet again, Arunima Sinha has brought laurels to India by becoming the first amputee woman to climb Mt-Vision, the tallest peak of Antarctica.

Arunima announced her marvelous achievement on Twitter.

The Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, too took to Twitter and congratulated Arunima for the big success.

Who is Arunima ?

Arunima was born in 1988, and belongs to Ambedkar Nagar in Uttar Pradesh. Earlier, she was a national level volleyball player.

But in 2011, Arunima lost her one leg after she was thrown out of the Padmavati train by dacoits, while travelling from Lucknow to Delhi.

The so-called ‘handicap’ could not deter Arunima’s spirit. Instead, she now dreamt of soaring even higher, and determined to become a world-class mountaineer.

Arunima was honored with Padma Shri, the fourth highest Civilian Award in 2015 .

Her latest victory, of climbing the Antarctica mountain is yet another feather in her cap.
