As UK Prime Minister Theresa May delayed the Brexit vote in Parliament because she could not get enough of her own Tory (Conservative) MPs to vote with her on her withdrawal agreement, Andy Serkis (the actor who plays Gollum/Smeagol in the Lord of the Rings series) has channeled the corrupted Hobbit into a caricature of May’s apparent dilemma.
The controversy over Brexit now centres on whether May should hold a second referendum on Britain exiting the European Union, considering oscillating public opinion and staunch resistance from many quarters, or whether she should continue to Parliament to get her withdrawal agreement passed and begin the process already.
In addition to this, May could soon be facing a leadership challenge from her own party over the Brexit fiasco.
