So All India Bakchod took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 13 July. While the comedy troupe is no stranger to making fun of the PM, this time around they slapped the Snapchat dog filter on the photograph of a man who resembles the PM and captioned it #Wanderlust before sharing it on social media.
The AIB post did not go down well with a number of Twitter users, who reported it to the Mumbai police.
The police were quick to respond.
AIB has taken down their post. But their move drew flak from the Congress, and the AIB members have been expressing their frustration online.
Gaurav Pandhi of the Congress responded to Rohan Joshi by calling him a “coward” and “hypocrite” for taking down the post. He also took a dig at the BJP and suggested that they would never rob the comedy group of the freedom to express their opinions.
A lot of people took to Twitter to explain how things got the way they did.
Gaurav responded to @Memeghnad’s tweet accusing him of “false equivalence”.
A seemingly pro-Congress Twitter user had some things to say about the episode: “As usual All India Bakchod shows they don't have the balls to make fun of Modi and BJP. Sab herogiri Congress ke khilaf hi nikalti hai”.
In response to which we learnt via another tweet that: “They have made fun of Modi and BJP ample of times. If you want I can redirect you to those! Not that it is a wrong thing to do. Just saying!”
Tanmay Bhat took time to respond to their thread.
Having been put on the offensive once again, AIB is trying hard to defend their political stance on Twitter:
Here’s another jibe about them “raking in the moolah”:
Rohan tweeted his response about why they decided to take the post down:
But Twitterati haven’t stopped making jokes about it:
And AIB continues to tweet the odd sly one:
With Tanmay probably having the last word here:
