While the aam junta was intrigued when Baba Ramdev launched Patanjali SIM cards in association with BSNL, the godman-cum-entrepreneur had more to offer – a desi WhatsApp competitor app, no less. Details are still unclear on how to buy the Patanjali SIM card, or when it’ll be available, but ‘Kimbho’ app is for everyone. And what does Kimbho mean? It’s Sanskrit for ‘What’s up’. Kaafi clever.
Launched under the brand of Patanjali Communication, the app claims to be a sau-pratishat ‘Swadeshi’ app. There are reports regarding the app being a straight copy of an old, Made-in-America messaging app, and also having grave security issues.
If it’s indeed different from other messaging platforms, here’s looking at how sanskaari the app might turn out to be. Fingers crossed. Tongue firmly in cheek.
