Remember Lola Kutty, the Keralite lady on Channel V who spoke English with a thick Malayali accent?
If you, like us, are kids from the 90s, when Channel V was what YouTube is today, you probably remember her pretty well.
With her long tresses, and beautiful kanjeevarams, Lola Kutty’s VJ game was strong. Way stronger than Kenny Sebastian’s. And no, she certainly didn’t feel the need of a makeover to be cool. Lola Kutty was the very definition of cool. Like Channel V itself.
The Channel, which was the go-to place for new, hip music – from Alisha Chinai’s Made in India to A Band of Boys’ Nain Katari, also had original content that focused on youth issues. It also gave an entire generation their first taste of international music.
Now that the Channel is no longer with us, we have Lola Kutty’s long-lost sister, Paula Kutty, bid it adieu.
To Channel V and all the fond memories it holds for us!
