After the penultimate episode of Game of Thrones season 8, titled The Bells, fans are divided on how they feel about the dark turn that Daenerys Targaryen’s character took. However, the seeds of dissent among the ranks were sown much earlier. Many fans took to social media to diss the show’s creators, David Benioff and DB Weiss.
Angry redditors even managed to trick Google’s algorithm to rank their pictures one of the highest when someone searched the term “bad writers”.
But the fans have now taken it to the next level. A petition surfaced on Change.org which asks that the HBO show’s final season be remade. The petition asked for 300,000 signatures, and managed to achieve the target in no time.
The petition reads: “David Benioff and DB Weiss have proven themselves to be woefully incompetent writers when they have no source material (i.e. the books) to fall back on. This series deserves a final season that makes sense. Subvert my expectations and make it happen, HBO!”
And evidently, a lot of fans agree. The fans have been discontent with this season ever since the first couple of episodes released. They blame the show’s creators for writing weak story lines, and also agree that some crucial character development arcs were thrown out of the window. The slips like the Starbucks cup and Jaime’s hand mysteriously growing back (turned out they were promotional stills and not the actual episode) just added to the train-wreck.
Earlier this month, a video surfaced, which contains the cast’s reaction to the final season and it has also gone viral. However, despite the public outrage, it seems highly unlikely that HBO will decide to remake the final season. So, all we can do right now is to wait for the final episode.
