Delhi Comic Con, (DCC) 2018 ended on 9 December with the exhibits from the city’s best cosplayers. If you missed the weekend long pop culture extravaganza, here are some highlights.
Fan-meet with Night King!
Game of Thrones’ Night King, AKA Vladimir Furdik held a fan meet at Delhi Comic Con and was present on all three days.
While fans were quite excited to meet their favourite villain from the digital TV world. Some felt that the ‘fee’ to enter the fan meet booth was a bit much.
For a selfie with the Night King, fans had to pay somewhere between Rs 1000 to Rs 1500 approximately. That’s how much the three-day ‘super fan pass’ costed!
Cosplay Contest
What came as a pleasant surprise to cosplayers was that Comic Con this year, allowed more categories for them to enter in. That also meant more prizes to be won.
Games and superhero comics inspired characters, were the popular cosplays, followed by anime and manga. Although, this year’s cosplay contest did miss out on most contestants from other cities.
Group cosplays were also a popular trend this year. In the gaming category, PUBG was a popular inspiration for cosplayers.
A few brave souls also went as memes.
Unlike last year, there weren’t any noteworthy Bollywood inspired desi cosplays, apart from ‘Crime Master Gogo’.
Winners
Vipin Aryan dressed as ‘Martis’ won the Grand Prize on day one from Gaming category.
Day 2 saw Jeet Molankar sweeping the Grand Prize with his LED enabled Iron man suit in comic book category.
Shine Saha's Gypsy Avenger (Pacific Rim) got a roaring round of applaud and of-course the Day 3 Grand Prize.
Interactive Activities
DCC 2018’s overriding theme was big franchise studios promoting their movies or shows through giant installations or activity booths.
While Marvel, and Sony were the usual suspects given the number of superhero movies they produce, Amazon Prime was an unusual pit stop. It remained one of the most popular booths throughout the weekend, with both young adults and teens queuing up for the activities inside.
Their Mirzapur themed activity booth got the most attention, with their ‘desi khatta’ challenge being the highlight.
Over all, Delhi Comic Con 2018 kept its tradition of keeping the fandom alive in spite of a fair drop in footfall. While there was no dearth of free activities, the priced ones were on the higher range. Not to mention, Internet and mobile connectivity remained a dire issue throughout the three days.
