Leelamma Mathai, has been a resident of Chembur’s Marouli village for more than 30 years now. Mathai, who lives with her two sons and her 75-year-old mother, says that every monsoon, their family home floods with sewage water from the overflowing drain nearby.
The major reason for this plight is the absence of proper drainage system, Jerry alleges, adding that the BMC is shying away from its duties.
Leelamma says she has been knocking at the doors of the BMC, including that of the Assistant Commissioner, for the last 11 years. She says that the officials are well versed in giving excuses, irrespective of the seriousness of the complaint lodged.
