In February this year, tensions between India and Pakistan had escalated, seemingly to the point of no return. After the 14 February Pulwama attack, both countries had engaged in an aerial dogfight that resulted in the capture and subsequent release of IAF pilot Abhinandan Varthaman.

On 28 February, I wrote in The Quint about how great it would be if PM Imran Khan and Indian PM Narendra Modi had chai, or a Gujarati luncheon together. When I read about the second edition of the My Report Debate, the topic in question interested me, and I began to wonder what was the best way to to improve relations between India and Pakistan – a jaadu ki jhappi or a surgical strike?

If we talk about ‘jaadu ki jhappi’ or surgical strike, I will always go for an option which talks about peace, which is about bringing people together.

As Ayesha Ali, a student from Jhelum, said:

“How surgical strikes seem an interesting opinion or an option when it comes to movies, in order to make movies a hit. But when it comes to practicality, ‘jaadu ki jhappi’ could always be an ultimate answer to that.”

She aptly puts forward that surgical strikes only inflict harm on both sides of the world geography. Therefore, peace is the only option.

“We can only solve the issue through peace. There is no other option than peace. You can see, in the past, all countries that have fought a war have only suffered.”

Of course, a solution to the Kashmir issue is most important.

“India-Pakistan issue can only be solved by having peaceful, table discussions between both the countries and by solving the Kashmir issue. The Kashmir issue is a pertinent issue which needs to be solved as soon as possible.”
