“My daughter finished her class 12 this year, and her marks are – Biology: 85; Chemistry: 92; Physics: 72; English: 97; Biotech: 85. She is a bit confused about whether she should go for a BBA (she has an interest in Commerce subjects) or pursue Biotech. She is not particularly interested in MBBS. Which would be the better option career-wise?”Vinita Srivastava
Dear Vinita,
Don’t you think, changing the stream from Science to Commerce in UG may be irrelevant? Your daughter has good marks in Science subjects, and she will shine well if she chooses a course like Biotechnology. However, it depends on her interest. Since she is interested in pursuing Commerce courses, you can give have a chance to prove. BBA course too has good career prospects. Firstly, please ask your daughter whether she is interested in pursuing Biotechnology, because you mentioned that she is not interested in pursuing an MBBS course itself.
“I got 94.8% in my 12th boards and 81.2 percentile or 2,18,217 rank in JEE mains. So should I pursue BTech, with UP colleges or IP colleges since my rank isn’t good, or should I get enrolled in a good DU college and pursue BSc from there?”Shilpi Jain
Dear Shilpi,
You have a good percentage in Class 12. Would you like to get into an Engineering or a Science course? If you are planning to pursue BSc, you have higher chances of securing admission to the University of Delhi. You can check the previous year’s cutoffs for DU for BSc course. The online registration process is expected to commence in June. Pursuing BSc from DU will have excellent career prospects.
If you are willing to get into NITs with a rank of 2,18,217, you can just check the opening and closing ranks of NITs for JEE Main. If you are sure about pursuing engineering, you can aim for admission in UP or IP engineering colleges, as admission chances in NITs may be limited for you.
“I got 84.75% in Class 12 (ISC Board) and my subjects were Commerce, Business Studies, Accounts, Hindi and English. Now I want to apply for BA in English in DU. Can I get admission?”Naina Haseeb

So, the chances of securing admission in top DU colleges in the BA English (Hons) course may be limited for you in the four cutoff lists. However, there are some chances for you to get admission in the DU fifth cutoff list.
The cutoff is different for different categories like SC/ST/OBC/General etc. The fifth cutoff for SC category for BA English (Hons) course in some of the DU colleges will be around 84%.
“I took Science with Maths in class 12, but failed in Maths and I now have to give a compartment exam in July. I know my Maths is weak but I would like to pursue law for my higher education. Is it possible? Can you please tell me about some colleges that provide admission to students with a compartment?”Samarth Singh
Dear Samarth,
You are eligible to pursue a three-year LLB course if you clear the compartment exam. Even though you can’t get admission in top law colleges in India, you can try for admission in law courses located in your state, city or region. Since you did not give any entrance exam for admission in three-year LLB course, you can apply for admission under institutional-quota or management quota. Before taking up LLB course, it is advisable to analyse your abilities. LLB course requires a lot of hard work and study.

You can wait for the fifth cutoff list, so that you may have chances to get admission in any of the DU affiliated colleges (except the top colleges). According to previous year’s cutoff trend, the cutoff for some colleges as per the fifth list was approximately 83-85%. It is also advisable to apply for other colleges too for better admission chances.
