Sneakers, the Athleisure Statement

Turns out, the sneakers trend is a sprightly new addition to the style scene. Kicking aside the merciless autonomy of heels, the year 2016 has given us a new friend in sneakers – representative of the larger Athleisure trend – that combines athletics with chic wear.

Athleisure in India

Athleisure – which is the biggest trend of the year – has been written about extensively and is the buzzword in fashion circles, keeping in trend with the fitness conscious times.

The Athleisure trend has caught up in India too. During the recently concluded Lakme Fashion Week, actor Shraddha Kapoor walked the ramp in a Masaba Gupta creation wearing Stan Smiths.

While sneakers-on-dress can’t be correctly termed a trend – indeed it was meant to be an anti-trend, a sort of flipping the birdie to all those mainstream fashion norms that authorised us to walk miles in heels, it has become a statement of sorts for the self-assured, unpretentious fashionista!
