Winter is slowly receding and summer heralds... Yes, we are a country with two dominant seasons, and anyone who tries to dupe you into believing otherwise must not be taken seriously.

If summers come, can travel plans be far behind?

Before you book your tickets for your next travel adventure, here are some tips that may prove handy while travelling in the summer season:

1. Choose Your Destination Wisely

Picking the right destination is the first step to a successful trip in any season but more so in the hot and sweltering summer months. You may fancy travelling to the Gulf countries but being stranded in Dubai in the scorching heat of May-June is something probably best avoided.

Beaches can also be tricky, especially in very hot months. Road trips in summer is also not a great idea as, more often than not, they get tiring and exhausting. It sounds clichéd, but hill stations work best for the summer season. You don’t have to go to the most popular ones but you can always scout for a quaint little town hidden in nooks and crannies of the country. These are ideal for lazing around.

Likewise, if you plan to travel outside the country, pick your destination wisely.

2. Stock Up on Essentials

Summer travel can get daunting if you aren’t armed with the right tools. These include a sunscreen, a first aid kit and insulated bags. Travelling in summers without a sunscreen can leave you with an unwanted tan and skin damage.

Similarly, no trip should be planned before leaving scope for accidents. A first-aid kit then becomes non-negotiable. Packets of electrolytes and some usual medicines are a must.

If you are travelling with food – fruits, vegetables or cooked food – make sure you keep it in an insinuated bag else the heat can damage the food.

You wouldn’t want that, would you?

3. Pack Smartly

Just because you are travelling in the summer months doesn’t mean you need to pack everything. Yes, some clean clothes, a few accessories, footwear are indispensable but don’t overdo the packing. Pick loose cottons and linens, light colours, summery prints instead of bulking up on heavy dresses in dark colours. Flip -flops are a must when travelling in summers to keep you care free.

But remember, the lighter you pack, the more at ease you will be.

Also, don’t leave the packing for last-minute as you are bound to skip packing important things in a rush. Besides, a cluttered suitcase will keep you occupied even at your travel destination, taking away the fun of travelling.

Take your time, organise your suitcase and set on the voyage.

4. Stay Hydrated

Probably the most important travelling tip in summer months – stay hydrated. This can’t be emphasised more. Always carry a water bottle, keep sipping water at regular intervals as you are more prone to dehydration when on the move. And you wouldn’t want to fall sick while on vacation.

Coconut water is another very good option for staying hydrated so load up on hydrating beverages as much as you can. Avoid alcohol, especially during the wee hours of the day, as that too may lead to dehydration.
