The telco recently introduced 4G services in the islands and while this bodes well for the residents there, it is sure to boost tourism in a big way.

The presence of a strong network such as Airtel 4G will make travel simpler, safer and smarter for vacationers.

From updating Instagram on the go to doing a LIVE from one of the beaches, from looking up directions to deciding where and what to eat, there’s just so much you can do with a great internet connection, and Airtel has you covered on that front. As of now, Airtel’s services are available in Agatti, Bangaram and Kavaratti islands, and gradually they will be expanded to other parts as well.

The availability of high-speed mobile internet will only encourage more and more people to plan a holiday to Lakshadweep. For a place, where tourism is one of the economic drivers, this is really good news. Now we know that you too have almost chosen Lakshadweep to be your next vacation spot, so let’s make it a little easier for you. Here’s a list of 5 of Lakshadweep’s irresistibly beautiful islands, that will make you plan a vacation right away!

Kavaratti

Kavaratti is the capital of Lakshadweep and is more developed than the other islands. With numerous beaches and endless stretches of white sand, Kavaratti will mesmerise you with its beauty. It’s home to more than 50 mosques, with Urja being the most architecturally stunning. If you’re particularly interested in marine life, there’s also a famous aquarium here. While Kavaratti is popular for a number of water sports such as scuba diving, snorkelling, jet skiing and parasailing, one thing that you must do here is take a ride on the glass-bottomed boat. This way, you get an amazing view of the marine life and the coral formations that Lakshadweep is known for. And given that Kavaratti is one of the islands where Airtel 4G is available, you can share all your experiences with the world as they happen.

Trivia: Kavaratti is also significant because INS Dweeprakshak, a naval base of the Southern Naval Command of the Indian Navy, is located on this island.

Agatti

Agatti is one of the smaller islands and is sparsely populated, but like most of Lakshadweep, it abounds in natural beauty. It is known for its coral reefs, beautiful beaches, natural vegetation and geographical formations. Everywhere you see, you will find a sight worth capturing. You can easily explore the island on foot or rent a two-wheeler. Agatti doesn’t have much to offer in terms of architectural beauty, but promises to be a paradise for beach lovers. You can laze around on any one of the beaches while simply staring at the blue skies. Now, if this isn’t bliss, we wonder what is?

Trivia: What makes Agatti so very accessible is the fact that it’s the only island in Lakshadweep to have an airport.

Kadmat

Kadmat is yet another gem of an island in Lakshadweep. It’s also popularly called Cardamom Island. Surrounded by lagoons, this island is gifted in terms of coral reefs and is rich in flora and fauna. It offers a number of adventure activities such as scuba diving, kayaking and snorkelling. You can also take a cruise along the island and explore its beautiful marine life and soak in the beauty of all the beaches.

Trivia: Kadmat is home to marine turtles that nestle there. The island has been notified by the Ministry of Environment and Forests as a marine protected area.

Bangaram

Bangaram is one of the more isolated and peaceful islands of Lakshadweep. As a result, it’s the favourite of honeymooning couples and international tourists. The beaches are dotted with palm plantations. While the island does offer adventure activities, Bangaram is for those vacationers who like to take it easy. Take a walk on the beach, admire the sunset and admire nature in all its glory. And as you go about doing all this, you can always count on Airtel’s 4G network to keep you connected.

Trivia: At night, the glow from phosphorescent plankton lights up the beach shores here. It’s a sight to behold!

Minicoy

This quaint little island is located in the southern part of Lakshadweep and is very popular among tourists for its vintage lighthouse. It’s locally known as Maliku and is said to be ‘one of India’s best kept secrets’. Minicoy has an unmissable charm and is the kind of beach where you can simply put your feet up and sunbathe. And when you’re not doing the typical water-cation things, make sure you enjoy the gorgeous views the lighthouse has to offer. Two of the major tourist attractions here are the traditional Lava dance and races involving colourful snake boats called jahadhoni. In order to boost tourism in Minicoy Island, an airport is being planned here as well.

Trivia: Every year, around December-January, National Minicoy Festival is celebrated in this island. The objective is to celebrate and popularise the culture and tradition of this island.
