It is the second Sawan Somwar Vrat of 2019. The month of joy, Sawan 2019, began on 17 July. Sawan or Shravan is the fifth month of the Hindu calendar and is considered to be the most auspicious month of the year. The complete month is dedicated to Lord Shiva. His devotees spend their time worshiping and fasting to get his blessings.

The month of Sawan is widely celebrated in the North Indian states. People perform different types of pujas, sing bhajans, go on kanwar yatra and keep fasts.

Sawan Somvar: Significance

Sawan Somwar are of great significance for the Shiva devotees. Sawan Somvar Vrat or fasts on Monday in the month of Shravan is said to bring desired results. It is believed that Lord Shiva would bless those who keep Somvar Vrat with good health, protection from evil, help them during the difficult times and gain success in their lives. Several unmarried girls keep fasts on Mondays with the hope that Lord Shiva would reward them with a good husband or would get married to a person of their choice.

People keep Solah Somvar Vrat (fasts on 16 Mondays) starting from the first Somvar of Sawan. It is believed that Goddess Parvati observed the Solah Somvar Vrat in order to get married to Lord Shiva. People follow all the rituals very seriously and this shows their devotion and belief in the almighty.
