Biplab Hazra, owner of a brick making company who utilises his free time by clicking pictures to spread awareness as to how people look at nature and conservation has on Sunday, won the Sanctuary Nature Foundation award for being the Wildlife Photographer of the year for his "Hell is here" photo.
The photo shows as elephant calf on fire as he tries to flee a mob with his mother. The photograph was shot in Bankura district in West Bengal and shows what is 'routine' in the area and other parts of the country like Assam, Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Tamil Nadu.
The award was given out by Sanctuary Nature Foundation, a conservation nonprofit from Mumbai. The foundation gives the Sanctuary wildlife photography awards annually.
The organisation said it received some 5,000 entries from across Asia. The jury consisted of several wildlife and conservation photographers including Sanctuary Asia editor Bittu Sahgal and National Geographic photographer Steve Winter, Scroll reported.
