The first time I met my (now) husband I was 15. We were a part of the same group in school and one day he randomly sent me a mail saying ‘I love you’ - it was just that. I was quite sure it’s a prank. We had been friends for a while and I never got the feeling that he loved me. So I did what anyone would, I ignored his message. I got the same mail repeatedly for a week, in different font styles and sizes, saying the same thing ‘I love you’, for a week.
It was flattering and I enjoyed every bit of it. We got talking and spent more time together. We started hanging out outside of the group and a month later we started dating.
It was all nice and filmi until he decided to suddenly disappear. He decided to break up with me and as a kid I’m sure he didn’t know how to deal with it. So he just ignored me at school and otherwise. I was shattered and how.
That’s when I decided to move on and never look back. Rejection is a horrible thing and when you are young, you have no idea how to deal with it.
He lived just a few minutes away from my house and we did have a few common friends. I would bump into him off and on, but I was too angry to even confront him. It was a chapter that was over and done with, for me.
During senior college, I was out with a common friend of ours and he told me that Harsh was still in love with me. I wanted to never see him again. I did not entertain the conversation and left without saying a word, and just like he had disappeared, he suddenly came back into my life once again. He called me one evening, but I had still not forgiven him for what he did in school. It was my first heartbreak and it gave me many sleepless nights. It couldn’t be that easy. Harsh however did not give up. He did everything possible to get me back. I was adamant that I didn’t want to be with him, because I didn’t want to get hurt again. A mutual friend of ours played the cupid and cleared all the misunderstanding between us. I was given a valid reason for his absconding behaviour and with all the chase and effort he made, I was convinced that he loves me. We got back together and it has been absolutely beautiful ever since. We have been together for 11 years now (married for 6). I believe we were destined to be together.
The best decision I made- I gave love a second chance and found my soulmate. The best feeling in the world is when your first love is also your last.
