There’s immense softness hidden away in the Art Nouveau period of design.
For his collection at the latest edition of India Couture Week 2017, designer Varun Bahl liberally sought inspiration from its visual aesthetic and juxtaposed it with Indian couture.
The result: A series of vintage floral lehengas, jacket anarkalis, saris and even men’s jackets.
The colour palette is deliberately kept soft, in shades of ivory, pale pink, peach, burnt orange, pistachio, but even when it ventures into red, it seeks to retain its softness with delicate embroidery.
Delicate floral and plant motifs are seen throughout the collection. There’s a mix of voluminous, structured, and layered silhouettes on display.
All in all, we’d just say that Bahl — who has taken his inspiration from artist Alphonse Mucha’s masterpieces — has designed his muses just as spectacularly.
