Lakmé Fashion Week has made an early appearance after it kicked off in the first week of February. Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/ Resort 2017 usually takes place in the month of March but this time, designers started showcasing their collection as early 20 January.
Maybe it’s the February chill but designers have surprisingly presented collections that more suitable for the Fall/ Winter season rather than the ‘Summer/Resort’ one. Deep and dull shades, jackets, coats and excessive layering were characteristic features in most collections on day 1 of fashion week.
Jackets, coats and everything
Designers like [Ka] [Sha], Anuj Bhutani and Amit Aggarwal, all featured bomber jackets and trench coats. The question is, in what part of India can people wear these in the summers without melting? The Himalayas perhaps.
Laying It on Thick
Layers and layers of fabric and no escape from the heat. Instead of presenting fuss-free clothes with loose comfortable silhouettes, Amit Aggarwal and [Ka] [Sha] presented beautiful but impractical collections.
Dull = Drab?
In the drafty and cold months of winter, we end up wearing colors keeping in tune with the depressing weather but summer is all about the bright sun and vibrant flowers. Thus, in summers, we choose bright and bold colours which uplift our mood and energy. But the Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2017 brought our energy down with staid and boring shades of brown, salmon and grey.
Issued in Public Interest
