The cut out swimsuit that Katrina Kaif sizzled in, in the movie Bang Bang may still be in vogue this summer. But truth be told, if you ain’t got a body like a movie star, that style ain’t for you! That means that 99.99% of us regular girls are looking for that perfect swimsuit to cool off in this summer… one that flaunts our best assets and cleverly distracts from the not so appealing ones.
This season, prints - a mix of floral and geometric - are what to go for. But more importantly here’s how to pick the right swimsuit for your body type… as we tackle some common problem areas!
The Big Hips:
The number one rule to visually minimize a large bottom is to use a dark colour. Experiment with full coverage bikini bottoms or give boy shorts or even a skirtini a try. If opting for a regular V-shaped style, look for a higher cut to help you look sleeker. Also, it helps to draw the eye up to the bust, so look for detailing around the neckline or try to match a lively print on the top with a solid dark coloured bottom. While small prints on the bottom can help, beware of large prints that add volume to the back side!
The Well Endowed Lady:
Now if it’s the other way around and you are blessed with a fuller top, the first thing you need in a swimsuit is support! So look for deeper cups and styles that assure you comfort and coverage. Halter neck tie-ups are great, they are sensual but also give you control over tightening or loosening the top half of your swim wear. Square necklines also help in minimizing your bounty!
Belly No Dance Please!:
The flabby tummy plague hurts us all. But a clever one piece or a tankini top can minimize that bulge. Lookout for high-spandex material, it helps you hold the flab exactly like a tummy control brief does. Pieces that have gathers that start on the sides but continue across the belly are a good camouflage tool. And if you love prints, use a busy pattern to deceive the eye as well! If opting for a tankini, choose carefully. A tankini top that tapers down will end up riding up when stretched, exposing what you want to cover up. A flared tankini top on the other hand is flattering and attractive.
