Cannes 2017 has been special for chef Vikas Khanna. On Thursday, the annual film festival has provided the backdrop for the launch of the trailer of a docu-feature on the celebrated chef. Titled Buried Seeds, the film directed by Andrei Severny recounts Khanna’s journey from Amritsar to America to being the owner of a Michelin star restaurant in New York. Khanna has dedicated the film to his family and his biggest inspiration chef Sanjeev Kapoor.
Take a look at the trailer of Buried Seeds here:
Buried Seeds is actually based on the biography of Vikas Khanna by the same name written by his close friend Karan Bellani. The film recreates Khanna’s childhood, his family dealing with the problem of his misaligned legs and feet, him finding comfort in his grandmother’s cooking and kitchen, his move to Manipal and later Manhattan to his evolution as a Michelin star chef.
It is a very personal journey that Andrei has captured. The film would travel around the world and at many film festivals to showcase the rich family heritage of India. We want more people to see the beauty, bonding and sacrifices made by an Indian family for a dream of a child.Vikas Khanna
With his third stint at Cannes this year, Khanna seems to have become a regular at the film festival. The chef was in Cannes in 2015 to launch his book Utsav and he then premiered his documentary Kitchens of Gratitude in the city by the French Riviera in 2016.
