This one’s just for the girls, but the men will read for the fun of it!
People of the digital world, nerds in the US have developed the ultimate fashion app for women – one in which the smartphone can detect your bra size for the perfect fit!
Really! No more stepping into a lingerie store, no more awkward fitting sessions of being felt up by the (I’m sure) well-intentioned saleswomen! There is a startup, ThirdLove, that has made an iOS app which detects bra size by using two photos of your bust, one from the front and one from the side.
So let me give you a lowdown on this thing - you will have to take breasties (is that what you call breast selfies?), with your tank top on and upload it on the internet, and someone will perv on those pictures to tell your exact bra size?!
Sounds like full on fun for a lech! But hey, there’s much more to it, read on:
Here’s How It Works
San Fransico-based ThirdLove claims their app can convert 2D pictures to 3D data and within seconds it knows your exact bra size. But here’s the catch - the app doesn’t reveal your size, instead it takes you to another website that gives you a bunch of bra options which are your perfect fit. Here you can customise everything, from the straps to the cups, the fabric, and the type of bras.
Will You Use Such Apps To Find the Right Bra?
In the West, ThirdLove has become a huge hit for its precise fitting, comfortable bras. The app was launched two years ago but has gained popularity only now. Currently it is available only on iOS and they market their products to countries outside the US with a steep shipping price.
I’ve read many accounts of women gushing over this technology and the precision with which it detects the fit but personally I would be wary of it. Will it not bother you that your clothed booby selfies are floating around in the web? The founders of this app insist, they don’t save any pictures and the site is super secure, the data is accessed only by scientists who make the fit better.
Apps like ThirdLove might revolutionise how we shop for lingerie, but there are two major down sides - (a) you will always have to shop from their website because they don’t disclose the bra size (b) the fear of some pervert enjoying your breast selfies is terrible!
Thankfully, there are other apps which claim to do the same job and disclose your size too. ChiChi, a Japanese app uses the camera and a sensor in the app to detect the bust size.
Another app called True & Co is a fitting service which figures out your bra size by a series of questions - no pictures and no cleavage-pressing awkwardness either.
So is this the end of bra fittings? Can apps replace the inch tape? I think most women will agree to the fact that in the end, only a well-fitted bra matters!
