For us, the following two pieces define Raw Mango’s collection, ‘Cloud People’ — both are a lesson in how to make sheer bold, and yet somehow prevent it from entering into the vulgar territory.
Sheer can make a woman look ethereal – it is just such a tease. But it’s also a fabric that’s quite difficult to get right. Many designers err and make it look extremely tacky.
First, a bit about the collection: 'Cloud People’ is all about the celestial. Which is why you will see a lot of whites, a colour commonly associated with transcendence, and the mythical in this collection.
So it is indeed wondrous that we get to see interesting iterations of sheer in this collection.
First, let’s take you through a minute detail of the collection: Do you see those scalloped clouds of angels in flight? This interesting detail, made through handcrafted Chikankari on Bengal mul, zardozi and handwoven brocade, is seen all through the collection.

The collection also revisits Chikankari, which traditionally features floral and paisley motifs with a new vocabulary.
Matching Separates
Matching separates look quite chic in Western Wear. But their use in Indian wear can lead to mixed results – used as we are seeing a separate salwaar with kameez.
But Garg manages to do a great job with these matching desi separates, adding a few details and layers for added effect.
Liquid Gold
Putting his own version of ‘Liquid Gold’, Lakmé’s new beauty theme, Garg brings in textured beaten metallics and gives them a raw soul.
The angelic motifs are seen here too, along with floral prints and geometric figures; only this time against a much richer, Indian colour palette. Even the crinkles lend it a lot of character.
As far as the colour is concerned, liquid gold is one that will suit most Indian skins. Even though it gets its inspiration from ‘Cloud People’, we are glad the collection is also available for us mere mortals!
