In the fluttering chaos of backstage at the Hindustan Times Most Stylish Awards, Manish Malhotra is spotted scrutinising every look so that they are perfect to his standards. No matter how composed he looks, he says that his heartbeat is fast before every show even today.
Manish Malhotra presented his show Razzmatazz which is inspired by the 80’s disco era. He says that for him this show is associated with glitz and glamour that is why he thought of this theme. For the show, he designed 40 garments in less than 2 months.
His label stands for luxury and craft and that is what his show was all about. With sparkle and glitter for both menswear and womenswear, the designs have flowy silhouettes and interesting cuts upholding metal embroidery along with beads and sparkle giving it a multi-dimensional look. Manish Malhotra, when asked about the collection says, “Since I drew my inspiration from the 80’s disco era, you can see references such as big flowers, ruffles, bows that were big back then. I used simple fabrics such as chiffon and georgette to make evening-wear according to the present weather situations,”.
His muse for this collection was Kareena Kapoor Khan.
Talking about the men’s collection he says that these days men are ready to experiment and like to go bold making a statement so in his collection he has kept the cuts structured and classic but added sparkle and bling to the garments.
He will be completing 15 years of his Label and 30 yrs. of designing costumes next year. When asked about how the industry has changed, he says, “The crust is the same, emotions are the same, and the business hasn’t changed however a part of it seems changed. It has grown with time for the best,”.
