Eid ul-Fitr 2019: When Are Different Countries Celebrating Eid ?

Muslims across the world are eagerly waiting for the festival of Eid ul-Fitr. As the festival is celebrated when the new moon appears in the sky, dates differ due to difference in geographical locations. Several countries are still to confirm the celebration date for Eid ul-Fitr 2019. However, some countries have announced that the first day of Eid ul-Fitr will begin on Wednesday, i.e., 5 June 2019.

4 June is announced as the first day of Shawwal by the Supreme Court of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

UAE declared that Tuesday, 4 June is the first day of Shawwal, the Islamic month and so, is the beginning of Eid ul-Fitr.

Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, Pakistan and Australia have announced that 4 June, Tuesday will be the last day of Ramadan and that Eid ul-Fitr will be celebrated on 5 June, Wednesday.

A statement issued by the UAE Embassy in Bangkok read “The Islamic Center in Thailand has announced that the final day of Ramadan is on Tuesday and Wednesday, 5 June will be the first day of Eid ul-Fitr.”

Fawad Chaudhry, the Pakistan’s Minister for Science and Technology said that as per the lunar calendar prepared by his ministry, Eid ul-Fitr will be on 5 June.

Majority of Muslims in India will be celebrating Eid or Eid ul-Fitr on 5 June if the moon is sighted on 4 June. However, it might be on 3 June in Kerala and Udupi, and Dakshin Kannada districts of Karnataka ,because Ramzan began a day earlier in these areas.

Eid ul-Fitr is the first day of Shawwal, the Islamic month. This auspicious day is considered to be a day of rewards after a month-long fast and it’s believed that the Almighty has chosen to bestow his worshipper on Eid for their sacrifices during the Holy month of Ramadan.
