Indian author and columnist Bachi Karkaria chats with The Quint about her new book In Hot Blood, based on the controversial Nanavati case of 1959.
Her book recreates the whole narrative where a Naval Commander Kawas Nanavati, on the evening of 27 April 1950, stormed into the bedroom of the flamboyant businessman Prem Ahuja, after his English wife Sylvia confessed about having an affair with him. Behind the closed door of Prem Ahuja’s bedroom, three gunshots were heard and Prem Ahuja was dead.
However the court proceedings that followed, rendered a ‘not guilty’ verdict to the Naval Officer, and the book, In Hot Blood, seeks to give a comprehensive account of the events interlaced with judicial loopholes, and the constitutional crisis that was born thereafter. She also talks about her research process, the serendipity behind her sources, Bombay in the 60s and where she gets her sense of humour from!
In a Facebook Live with The Quint, she talks about her journey of writing the book and what she thinks was the truth.
