Jagdeep Singh, the special CBI judge who sentenced Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh to 20 years of imprisonment in a rape case, has been assigned Z+ security.
A team of 55 policemen, including 10 NSG commandos, were assigned to protect the Panchkula-based judge and his family members, after they began to receive threat calls from the Dera supporters, India Today reported.
Who is Jagdeep Singh?
Colleagues of Jagdeep Singh describe the CBI special judge as a no-nonsense man.
Singh pursued a course in law from Panjab University, and went on to become a Punjab and Haryana High Court lawyer. He was later designated an additional district and sessions rank judge.
A lawyer who worked with Jagdeep, told Hindustan Times that Singh is known to keep a low profile. “But all those who know him, will vouch for his competence and integrity,” he told the daily.
In 2016, Jagdeep made headlines for his good Samaritan act, when he rushed four road-accident victims to the hospital. First, he called the emergency number for an ambulance, but later he drove the injured to the hospital himself.
