Two militants were killed and three soldiers were injured, on 25 June, in fighting that erupted the previous day after an attack on a CRPF patrol in Panthachowk left a trooper dead, authorities said.
After hours of fighting to liquidate the two militants holed up in the Delhi Public School (DPS) complex near the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, the security forces said both were dead and all firing had halted.
The security personnel, which went from room to room, in the school found two bodies in one room, an officer said.
“The bodies of the two militants have been spotted inside one room from where firing had started. There has been no firing from the militants during the last one hour,” the officer added.
According to police, the gunfight started after midnight between the militants holed up inside the school complex and the security forces in Pantha Chowk area of Srinagar.
Mobile Internet Suspended
District Magistrate of Srinagar, Farooq Ahmad Lone, on 24 June, imposed restrictions on the stretch of Srinagar-Jammu national highway between Ram Munshibagh and Sempora.
Mobile internet services (3G/4G) were also suspended in the Kashmir Valley to prevent the spread of rumours.
The speed of landline broadband connections has also been brought down.
1 CRPF Man Killed, 2 Injured After Militants Ambush Convoy
One CRPF SI was killed and two were injured in an attack by militants on a vehicle of the paramilitary force near Pantha Chowk bypass in Srinagar on 24 June, officials said. Two-three militants are suspected to be hiding in a school and a search operation has been launched. The are has been cordoned-off.
Militants fired upon CRPF deployment near Pantha Chowk bypass around 5:50 pm, causing bullet injuries to a jawan and the driver of the vehicle, they said.
CRPF personnel retaliated, but there was no immediate report of any casualties on the militant side.
Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) claimed responsibility for the attack. The deceased has been identified as sub inspector Sahib Shukla and the injured as constable-driver Nissar Ahmed, officials said.
The CRPF personnel, part of a road opening deployment, were sitting inside their vehicle at Panthachowk bypass along the Srinagar-Jammu national highway when, around 17:50 pm, militants carried out the attack.
In the melee, a constable of Jammu and Kashmir was injured in the foot when his rifle went off accidentally, officials said.
