After months of speculations of merger talks between the two AIADMK factions, rebel leader O Panneerselvam disbanded a party panel that was to facilitate the talks.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Palaniswami’s camp on Monday asked him to reconsider the decision and said their stand remained the same, which is to hold talks and merge the two groups.
“They (Panneerselvam camp) should come back,” he said and added that the former chief minister-led faction “should reconsider it”.
D Jayakumar, who had asked AIADMK deputy general secretary TTV Dhinakaran to stick to his promise of staying away from the party affairs, said through the unification of the party the state government will be strengthened.

Panneerselvam dissolved the seven-member panel that was was constituted on 21 April and said people were not in favour of a merger and accused the Palaniswami camp of “enacting drama”.
The News Minute quoted Panneerselvam as saying:
There was no constructive developments from that side and that’s the reason we took this decision.. Since the talks between both the factions began, they have been carrying out a drama, we are no longer interested in this drama.
The talks remained a non-starter with the OPS faction demanding that Sasikala and TTV Dhinakaran be removed from the party and a CBI probe be ordered into the death of Jayalalithaa.
They kept giving interviews saying we will keep the family away and gave us assurances in private. Now, we are tired of waiting.OPS camp source to TNM
