Former Rajasthan HC judge Mahesh Chandra Sharma made national headlines for his infamous theories on the peacock sex, defended his statements and said that it was based on “religious evidence”.

In an interview to Hindustan Times, he said:

Scientific evidence har ek cheez mein…ye religious evidence hai. There’s scientific evidence everywhere...this is religious evidence.

Earlier on Thursday, during a hearing, Sharma suggested that the cow be made India’s national animal justifying with “religious evidence” that “ 33 crore Gods and Goddesses reside inside the cow… cow is the only living being which intakes oxygen and emits oxygen.”

He further clarified that his statement isn’t political but backed by constitutional laws.

You don’t connect this with anything political, connect it with cows only.

In an interview to ABP News given after the court hearing, he said:

When Ganga and Yamuna can have human entities, then the cow is a living being, that’s why they deserve a legal identity.

Then, he went onto making comparisons between pious cows and peacock, in an interview with CNN News 18, and said peacocks are celibates, and that peahens get impregnated with peacocks’ tears.

Peacock also has qualities. A peacock is a lifelong celibate. It never has sex with a peahen. A peahen gives birth after it gets impregnated with the peacock’s tears.

In the interview with HT, he justified this theory by saying:

There’s a reference in Bhagwat Purana about peacocks not having sex.
