CRPF forces have said that a number of Naxalites were killed in the ambush that left 25 CRPF personnel dead in Chattigarh’s Sukma district on 24 April.

CRPF DIG, DP Upadhyay told ANI that 10 Maoists were killed and five were seriously injured in retaliatory action by CRPF men after an attack on them in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district. However, no bodies have been discovered yet.

The CRPF DIG, told The Indian Express’ Dipankar Ghose that the slow pace of road construction had been a problem for the CRPF and the Chhattisgarh government had been sitting on the proposal for three years.

“Instead of being in the forests conducting operations, our manpower is constantly protecting infrastructure development. That is our duty, but this Dornapal-Jagargunda road has been under construction for years, and the pace of work is slow,” he said.

The officer also spoke about the lack of technology required to monitor the area, while stressing on the need for specialisation and special training exercises for jungle warfare.

The forces also had trouble understanding local dialects, he added. The CRPF patrol was attacked by 300 Maoists, that were sent to trace the CRPF’s location and then carry out the ambush.

In the biggest Maoist attack on CRPF personnel in the turbulent region in the last seven years, 25 jawans were killed and six others injured in an ambush led by 300 maoists.
