Former home secretary and BJP MP RK Singh said on Tuesday that Pakistan may have tortured and already killed retired Indian Navy officer Kulbhushan Jadhav. Pakistan’s army said on Monday that the alleged Indian spy had been sentenced to death by a military court.
India Today quoted Singh as saying:
Pakistan must have tortured and murdered Kulbhushan Jadhav and now Pakistan is making all this trial story to cover its sham. If not, then Pakistan must give us consular access.
Stating that Pakistan might soon announce Jadhav’s execution, the MP said the government should demand immediate consular access to him.
Meanwhile, responding to India’s accusation that the case against the Indian national is “concocted”, Pakistani officials claimed that Jadhav’s sentencing was preceded by a "three-month trial" and no laws were violated.
India had earlier sought consular access to Jadhav at least 13 times, but all of the requests were rejected by Pakistan.
Jadhav was on Monday sentenced to death for alleged espionage and sabotage in Pakistan. He was reportedly arrested in Balochistan in 2016 after he entered the country from Iran.
