In response to the recent protests and violence at Ramjas College, Sana Chaudhary (third-year student at Ramjas College pursuing her BA in Political Science) took to Facebook to talk about the position of the students of the college.
Chaudhary talked about how the protest movement, as conducted by the students of Ramjas College, was apolitical in nature. She urged people to not associate the protests her fellow students with those of groups such as the AISA, SFI etc.
Violent protests broke out this past Monday and Tuesday after ABVP representatives entered the college and violently protested against a seminar titled “Cultures of Protest”, where JNU student Umar Khalid was due to speak.
Do not make this a right vs left fight. The values we are standing for go beyond these binaries. Just because we invited Umar Khalid does not imply we agree with him. I for one do not agree with him at all. But this was my chance to listen to him, question him. The ABVP too could have, should have. But they resorted to violence. Do not drown the real meaning of our protest. Do not politicise it and miss the whole point of our protest. Nationalism was never the issue of the debate!Sana Chaudhary, Third-Year Student, Ramjas College
