Nobel Laureate and social activist Kailash Satyarthi’s house in Delhi’s Alaknanda was burgled on 7 February. Among the stolen possessions was a replica of the Nobel Peace Prize conferred upon him in 2014.
My Nobel Prize belongs to my country and its children. Appeal to the conscience of people involved in the theft to understand its significance and not get distracted by its monetary value.Kailash Satyarthi
Sathyrathi also said that he has complete faith in the authorities and the country’s legal body to find the criminals.
Sathyarthi won the Nobel Peace Prize for his organisation Bachpan Bachao Andolan, which helped free over 80,000 children from various forms of bonded labour.
The original medal is in Rashtrapati Bhavan, since Satyarthi dedicated the award to the nation. It is likely that the thieves mistook the plaque in his house for the original.
Satyarthi is currently in the US and it was his son Bhuvan Ribhu who found his father’s home broken into and alerted the police.
An FIR has been registered under section 380 (house theft).
