A security guard has been arrested for allegedly killing a 25-year-old software engineer in Pune. The victim, K Rasila Raju, was strangled to death at her workstation in Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park in Hinjewadi, Pune on Sunday, police said.
The Assistant Commissioner of Police said the security guard, Bhaben Saikia, a 26-year-old Assam native, was arrested at CST station in Mumbai, from where he was attempting to escape to Assam.
Rasila was working alone in the Pune office on a Sunday along with two teammates who were working from Bengaluru.
The incident came to light after an engineer from Bengaluru informed Rasila Raju’s team leader around 6.20 pm that she had not been working for an hour and was not responding to calls. After the team leader was also unable to reach her on the phone, the security staff were alerted, and eventually entered the room to find her dead.
Rasila had allegedly been strangulated with a computer wire.
The incident might have occurred around 5 pm but we received a call around 8 pm. Raju’s manager was trying to call her but there was no response. The manager called and asked the security guard to go and check and when the security guard went to see her, she was found unconscious near her workstation.Vaishali Jadhav, Assistant Commissioner of Police
The ACP said that according to the confession, the security guard had entered the room and was staring at her. The victim took offence to this and asked him not to do so. The guard denied that he had been staring at her, at which point she threatened to complain to the authorities against him. The guard asked her not to complain against him, and an argument ensued, in the course of which the guard allegedly murdered her.
A case of murder has been registered against the accused and investigation is on.
