One person died as two cars – a BMW and a white WagonR – rammed into each other near New Delhi’s Munirka area during the early hours of Monday morning.
The Delhi police has arrested 24-year-old Shoib Kohli, the driver of the luxury vehicle, who fled the spot after the incident. He is a resident of Panchsheel Park and works in a multi-national company in Gurgaon, as reported by Hindustan Times.
The BMW bearing a Chandigarh license plate was registered in Kohli’s mother’s name and he was on his way to Vasant Vihar when he lost control of the car and rammed it into the cab ahead, as police stated.
The car had been impounded by the Vasant Vihar police station.
Tens of cab drivers protested during the day, demanding the arrest of the driver of the luxury vehicle, as the person who died in the accident was a driver with cab aggregator Uber.
Eyewitnesses said that the WagonR was flung into the air because of the impact of the BMW and it skid for at least 50 metres before halting. Nazrul Islam, the driver, was from West Bengal and sustained injuries to the head and died on the spot.
We have arrested the driver of the car and will soon produce him in the court. A case of rash and negligent driving, causing death, has been registered against the driver of the BMW.Ishwar Singh, DCP (South)
