In an appalling revelation, a 38-year-old tailor, who had been arrested from East Delhi for molesting two minor girls, confessed to the police that he had sexually abused around 500 minors over the last 12 years.

Sunil Rastogi, the accused paedophile, preyed on school-going girls and said that he did it for sexual satisfaction.

Police added that he has claimed to have attempted assault on over 2,500 minors in all these years and was even jailed for six months for sexually assaulting a girl in 2006.

The fact that the serial offender went unchecked and got away with the crimes for all these years even after being known as a sexual deviant comes as a major red flag for the police.

Delhi Police have now linked Rastogi to six cases, three in Delhi, two in Rudrapur and one in Bilaspur district. The police started tracking him down in early December after a 10-year-old girl was sexually assaulted on her way back from school. They had began the search on the basis of the child’s description of the man. On 12 Januray, another such incident was reported where two minors were abducted in a similar way and were abused, but managed to raise and alarm, after which he fled.

The accused used to lure in his victims on the pretext of giving them new clothes and then took them to secluded spots to molest them.

A team led by Sub-Inspector Sandeep from New Ashok Nagar police station was tasked to track him down thereafter and he was arrested from a hideout near the Kondli village.

During interrogation, Rastogi said he would target one victim aged 7-10 every week. Delhi Police has set up a special investigations team to look for other victims since they suspect that most of his crimes went unreported.
