SUM Hospital Fire: Nadda Says Safety Issues Found, Assures Support

He assured support to the Odisha government for the treatment of patients.

Health Minister JP Nadda visited hospitals in Bhubaneshwar on Wednesday to take stock of the situation. He met the injured and inquired about the treatment facilities.

Assuring all support to the Odisha government for the treatment of patients affected in the SUM Hospital fire, Nadda said he was not there for any blame game over the incident which claimed 20 lives.

He said that prima facie he found some safety issues which need to be addressed and that the people’s faith needs to be restored.

He has also called an emergency review meet of officials over fire safety of government hospitals in Delhi after the Odisha hospital fire tragedy. Hospital administration and fire officials are to attend the meet on Wednesday.

Stating that the Centre would take measures to ensure better treatment of the fire-hit patients, Nadda said the state govenrment had constituted panels for conducting inquiry into the mishap.

The state government should implement fire safety measures at hospitals, said Nadda who is slated to hold discussions with health officials.

The Health Minister, along with Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan, met patients at AIIMS, Bhubaneswar, AMRI Hospital and KIMS Hospital. The two ministers will also visit SUM Hospital.
