The Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) on Tuesday hiked petrol price by Rs 3.38 a litre and diesel by Rs 2.67 a litre.

The news was certainly not welcome by citizens who took to Twitter to express their fury, cornering the Narendra Modi government on its empty promise of ‘acche din’.

The rise in fuel prices – necessitated by a 13 percent rise in international oil rates in the last fortnight – comes on the back of four reductions.

The reductions in the last two months had led to the price of petrol in Delhi to come down by Rs 5.56 a litre and Rs 4.92 per litre in the case of diesel. In its last revision, the IOC had cut the petrol price by Rs 1 and diesel price by Rs 2.

The latest hike will come into effect from Thursday.
