Delhi University Students’ Union President Satinder Awana is making headlines for a dowry harassment case.
The complainant, who was married to Mohit Awana, in 2015 has now reached out to the police. A case has been lodged against nine members of Awana’s family at the sector 20 police station in Noida.
The complainant alleged that the accused beat her up and even threatened to kill her for not fufilling the family’s demand for a high-end car.
A complaint has been registered against eight others under six sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Nine members of the Awana family, including Satinder and his father, have been named under six counts in the dowry harrasment case.

Before the Police Case, a ‘Panchayat’ Tried a Settlement
According to police sources, Aruna Bhati a resident of sector 41 in Noida was married to Mohit Awana, also from Noida, in May 2015. Just days after the wedding, Aruna returned to her parent’s house alleging that her husband hit her.
A local panchayat settled the dispute, but Mohit was violent towards Aruna just two days after she returned from her parent’s home. In her complaint, Aruna claims that the violence was over dowry, despite the fact that her family had given jewelry, cash and a luxury car.
Violence in Front of the Cops
It is alleged that around 6:30 pm on Saturday, Mohit Awana and his family beat and harassed Aruna, demanding more dowry. There was even an attempt to strangle her. When her brother arrived to rescue her, an angry Mohit summoned about 50-60 young men.
By this time, the police had also arrived but the group of men continued to beat up both Aruna and her brother.
Satinder Distances Himself
Responding to The Quint, Satinder Awana insists that neither he nor his family has anything to do with the matter, and the accusations are baseless and a “political conspiracy” meant to discredit him. He claims that Mohit Awana, the prime accused, is not even related to him.
Currently, the matter is being investigated by the police in Noida.
