The Karnataka Lokayukta Police carried out raids in the Bellary house
and office of former Karnataka Minister and mining baron G Janardhana
Reddy in connection with the illegal mining deals and activities carried out
when BJP was ruling the state between 2008 and 2013.
Reddy – an all-powerful member of BS Yeddyurappa’s cabinet – was arrested in November.
That was the 14th case against him, and the third in which he has obtained bail. In a 2011 Special Investigation Team (SIT) report, Reddy was named as an accused of illegal mining activities, precisely rigging the iron ore mining in Bellary. Reddy who was arrested in 2011 was released on a conditional bail by the Supreme Court on 21st January 2015.
In September this year, the SIT of the Karnataka Lokayukta conducted a raid in the houses of Reddy and seven others. The team had seized documents pertaining to the illegal export of iron ore from Belikere port.
