Two students of the Al Qamar College of Nursing in Gulbarga, Karnataka were charged on Thursday with attempted murder after a 19-year-old student complained that they poured phenyl down her throat, reports NDTV.
On Wednesday, five students of a nursing college in Karnataka were booked for alleged ragging of the first-year Dalit girl student. She has been hospitalised and has severe stomach problems, police said.
The case was registered against Lakshmi of Kollam, Athira of Idukki and Krishna, Shilpa and Joe of Al Qamar College of Nursing at Gulburga, based on a statement from the 19-year-old victim, who is undergoing treatment at Kozhikode Medical College Hospital.Habib, Sub Inspector of KMCH Police Station.
Habib said the girl had named only five of the eight seniors who were involved.
She was allegedly being ragged by some of her seniors ever since she joined the women’s hostel. On 9 May, she was forced to drink toilet cleaning liquid by eight of her seniors, who also belonged to Kerala.Habib, Station Head, Kozhikode Medical College Hospital Police Station
Following this, she was admitted to a hospital in Gulburga with serious stomach pain. As her condition worsened after five days of treatment, she was sent home along with another student.
The girl was then admitted to Thrissur Medical College Hospital and after a few days, she was referred to KMCH on 2 June. Doctors at KMCH suggested a major surgery as the chemicals in the toilet cleaner severely damaged her food-pipe following which she has been admitted to the ICU.
