Telugu actor-turned-Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MLA Nandamuri Balakrishna’s alleged vulgar remarks about women have triggered a lot of criticism. At the audio release of the movie Savitri, Balakrishna allegedly said:
If I play roles in movies where I’m merely eve-teasing girls, my fans will not be okay with it. I should either plant a kiss on them or impregnate them. There should be commitment. Only that is acceptable.
Reports now suggest that the actor-turned-politician has now apologised for his comments and has clarified that he did not mean to offend women.
A police complaint was lodged against Nandamuri Balakrishna by a section of lawyers on Monday. The TDP MLA from Hindupur in Andhra Pradesh is the son of late actor and Chief Minister NT Rama Rao and is the brother-in-law of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

Wading into the issue, YSR Congress MLA RK Roja demanded an apology on Monday from the chief minister and Balakrishna on the issue. She said:
While the top leadership itself has been pursuing anti-woman policies it percolates down the line resulting in the harassment of women at various levels and such government should apologise to the women community.
