Those who haven’t watched it yet may not know The Fate of the Furious, but we certainly do know about the commercial fate of the Hollywood film. The latest in The Fast and the Furious franchise is set to be a worldwide blockbuster since it has surpassed the box office collection of even Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
At the global box office, the eighth instalment in the The Fast and the Furious series has reportedly collected a stunning $ 532.5 million. The previous record held by Star Wars: The Force Awakens was $ 529 million.
But unlike Force Awakens, Furious 8 had the advantage of a release in China, which has the second-largest movie market in the world. According to Taran Adarsh, the film made a huge $ 188.85 million in China alone.
According to a report in Time magazine, a large part of the latest Fast and Furious’ collections (about 81%) are coming in from international markets. Of the $ 532 million, only about $ 100 came from the US box-office.
However, the Furious 8 has opened below Furious 7’s earnings in North America. The seventh part of The Fast and the Furious was the last film that featured Paul Walker, who died in a car crash in 2013.
Reports suggest that Universal has already announced a ninth and tenth instalment of the film which will open in 2019 and 2021 respectively.
