Two days after the shocking incident of mass molestation in the heart of Bengaluru, Karnataka Home Minister G Parameswara made an expectedly sexist remark.
He pinned the blame on the women for dressing up in western clothing – and said, “These kinds of things do happen.” His comments, of course, left people enraged and disappointed.
On New Year’s Eve, celebrations in Bengaluru turned into a nightmare for some women when they were groped and molested on the streets.

And Parameswara’s misogyny has company. Abu Asif Azmi, a Samajwadi Party member, compared women to ‘sugar’ who when left out in the open alone would attract ‘ants’.
