Riding pillion on a two-wheeler with her dupatta covering her face and slanting her helmet, Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi travelled incognito to assess safety of women in the Union Territory after dusk. After conducting a night patrol, she said that she found the city reasonably safe at night.

She, however, said that she would suggest a few measures “which need to be taken by the police to enhance security.”

She said her late night patrol had provided her with information on which areas need improvement in the city and she asked residents of the city to contact PCR if they ever find themselves in an unsafe situation.

However, some Twitter users criticised Bedi for not wearing a helmet on the patrol. She responded that not wearing a helmet was a ‘conscious choice’ she made.

The former IPS officer usually cycles to neighbouring areas of the Union Territory during her weekend visits to meet people of the town and address the issues concerning them.
