‘House of Cards’ Actress Robin Wright Demanded Same Pay as Spacey

Equal pay has been of grave concern for years now, but finally, the leading ladies of Hollywood are speaking up against this discrimination. First it was Meryl Streep, then Jennifer Lawrence, and now, Robin Wright in a talk revealed that she threatened the makers of House of Cards, saying “you better pay me, or I’m going to go public.”

During a discussion about human rights and equality at the Rockefeller Foundation in New York City Tuesday, Wright, an occasional producer and director of the show said:

I was like, ‘I want to be paid the same as Kevin.’ It was a perfect paradigm. There are very few films or TV shows where the male, the patriarch, and the matriarch are equal. And they are in ‘House of Cards’. I was looking at statistics and Claire Underwood’s character was more popular than [Frank’s] for a period of time. So I capitalised on that moment. I was like, ‘You better pay me or I’m going to go public. And they did.
