“She (Nayanthara) is a known face. She can act as a ghost and as Goddess Sita as well. Back in those days, if filmmakers had a goddess character in the film, they’d go for veteran actress KR Vijaya. But now, anybody can play the role. We can cast those who are respected and those who sleep around.”

Yet another sad day for Indian women and this time it is for Tamil actor, Nayanthara. Tamil actor and DMK member Radha Ravi left everyone furious after he slut shamed actor Nayanthara at the trailer launch of her upcoming film, Kolayuthir Kaala.

He was invited to speak at the launch event where he took digs at the female lead when she wasn’t present there. ‘Now that’s rich!’ he said in Tamil.

According to a report by The News Minute, Radha, in the same speech also cracked a ‘joke’ on the Pollachi sexual assault and extortion incident.

What is the difference between a big film and a small film? If you rape one girl at once, it is a small film. If you rape 40 people at once, like in Pollachi, it is a big film.

We don’t know what’s worse, him saying the sexist things or the crowd cheering him on. The 66-year-old is also the head of the Dubbing Union, the central body for voice and dubbing artistes in the Tamil film industry.

When he was accused during the #MeToo movement, actor Chinmayi Sreepada who is a strong supporter of the movement tweeted:

She also supported colleague Nayanthara after Ravi’s speech defaming her went viral on Saturday.

Nayanthara’s partner, director Vignesh Shivn took to Twitter to condemn Ravi’s attack and spoke about how the Tamil film fraternity chooses to be silent and take no action. He also spoke about how he and Nayanthara had no idea that the event was even going to take place.

Taapsee Pannu, who’s also worked in the Tamil film industry said:

Others reminded him that according to his standards even his sister doesn't particularly fall under the category of a ‘goddess’ either.

Even after receiving flak from people, Radha Ravi said that he has done ‘nothing wrong’ and that he doesn’t need to apologise for anything.

“Media should never say no (to opinions). Views should come out. The press people who were there that day fully appreciated me. They said I spoke well! If I had said anything wrong, they would have condemned me right there. But they didn’t condemn me there, because I said nothing wrong.”

Such shameless state of affairs, alas!
